FURBY 1998 1st Edition (Used Does Not Work)

FURBY 1st edition from 1998 Model # 70-800. I am the original owner from a smoke-free and pet-free home. I worked at Toys 'R Us Mississauga and purchased this as an employee in 1998 at the peak of popularity. I used it for about a month and lost interest. It was in storage ever since. Tags are still attached. The batteries were still inside and after many years, it leaked a bit inside the toy and some went on the bottom of the box (see pictures). I put new batteries now to test but Furby does not work. It will not come with the new batteries. It comes with the box (has wear to it), Furby, instructions in both English and French.
