The artist, Amilcare Santini (1910-1975), was an Italian sculptor born in Florence. He was known for creating detailed sculptures using a unique combination of alabaster, marble, and resin. The handmade sculpture depicts a Roman Centurion welding the reigns on a war chariot pulled by 2 horses.
This sculpture is based on an authentic model exhumed + reconstructed by artist Francesco Antonio Franzoni, an Italian sculptor born in 1734 - which is held on display in The Vatican, in The Hall of the Chariot.
