Century Swiss-made Continental Pocket-watch $100 80% solid silver The Crescent Moon & Crown: Visible right next to the purity stamp is the German Reich imperial hallmark. Passed into law in 1884 and officially implemented for watches after 1888, this stamp was required by Germany to certify the purity of imported or domestically produced silver items. It proves the watch was intended for export to the historic German Empire. * The Tiny Bird Symbol: To the right of the purity stamp, there is a small bird marking. This is the Swiss "Wood Grouse" (Auerhahn) assay mark, which Switzerland used to officially stamp and guarantee .800 purity silver between 1882 and 1933. * G & C (inside a cartouche): This is the sponsor's or case maker's mark. It identifies the specific firm or factory that manufactured or imported the silver case. * The Dial: The face features elegant Roman numerals alongside outer 5-to-60 minute markers and an independent sub-seconds dial at the 6 o'clock position. * The Case: The back reveals an ornate, hand-engraved foliate/floral motif utilizing a guilloché pattern(the precise, engine-turned circular waves radiating across the surface). * Serial Number: The stamped digits (11157...) are the unique case serial numbers used by the factory for production tracking. *** NOTE:*** although the independent sub-seconds dial works, the other two dials, minute and hour do not move. However, if you decide to have an experienced horologist fix the ‘movement,’ you’ll have a beautiful working antique time peace worth up to $400.00
