    Antique Robinson-Ransbottom Pottery Stoneware Crock

    Home & Garden ·

    $55

Though it is not marked as such I am quite confident this is Toronto Pottery Company due to the colours used, style, where it was found, and comparisons to other marked examples, but hence cannot confirm it. The company existed from 1899 and through the first quarter of the next century. It was the only Toronto brand owned by an American company, the Robinson Clay Product Company out of Ohio. There were controversies at the time and tariffs were imposed. The crown imprint matches those used by the Robinson Company and the 1/2 denotes the volume. It would have been used for foodstuffs such as salted meat, butter, pickling, maybe a little moonshine- who knows? Considering the age this piece is in fantastic shape with no cracks or significant chips. There are a couple fleas bites on the bottom edge. The price tag on the bottom is not mine and is itself probably vintage. 10” x 5.75”
