Assorted Raw Black Obsidian Glass Pieces

I pulled these from the ground around Anahim lake or Nimpo lake in the Chilcotin in B.C. That's the only place in Canada you can find obsidian, which is a volcanic glass. Obsidian has the property that it breaks into very, very, extremely sharp shards. Before the introduction of steel tools in Canada, obsidian from this source was used to make knives that were traded all the way to the east coast. Actually obsidian is sharper than steel knives and obsidian tools were used to conduct eye surgeries until the introduction of laser incision in the 1970s. It's sharp. The smallest pieces are suitable for jewellery and could be cut or polished or tumbled. The glass is very black. The largest pieces are big enough to try flint knapping a ceremonial dagger or something. Be careful.
