Antique 1932 American Folk Art Style Child Portrait - Fine Oil on Linen Canvas - EFAUX Studio, D.F. Anderson Brooklyn NY For your consideration is a beautifully preserved, authentic 1932 American Colonial Revival oil portrait of a child in the traditional 19th-century primitive/itinerant style. This is a genuine, hand-painted work executed on a premium linen canvas, offering incredible historic charm and visual depth for gallery walls, traditional interiors, or early Americana collections. Historical Context & Pedigree This painting was created during the early 1930s Americana and Colonial Revival movement. It was produced by the specialty artisan workshop "EFAUX" (stamped and dated 1932 on both the front corner of the canvas and the back framework). The structural integrity of this piece is exceptional. The reverse side features the authentic, stamped wood inventory markings of the historic art supplier D. F. Anderson of Brooklyn, N.Y. It is stretched over an original mitered pine frame utilizing traditional triangular wooden corner keys, showing a gorgeous, natural century-old wood oxidation and patina. Artistic Style & Details Subject: A young child or toddler seated in a period-correct white knit dress, socks, and Mary Jane shoes, framed dramatically by a deep red drapery curtain against a dark, moody background. Medium: Genuine oil paint on heavy-weave linen canvas. The artist utilized thinned washes to perfectly capture the smooth, porcelain-like facial textures favored by 1800s itinerant folk artists. Condition: Excellent vintage condition. The linen canvas has aged to a uniform, warm tan hue on the reverse. The painted surface remains stable with no major flaking or heavy damage. Comes housed in its period-correct wood frame with the original wire hanger completely intact. Dimensions Stretcher / Canvas Size: 19.75" x 23.75" (Standard European Metric 50x60 cm "Size 20" framework run by D.F. Anderson) Nearest intersection Yonge Street and Steeles Avenue
