Vintage 1940s Green & Cream Plaid Lap Blanket
$130
A beautifully woven green and cream plaid twill blanket, finished with authentic hand-knotted fringe — a hallmark of pre-mass-production craftsmanship rarely seen after the 1950s.
The fabric features a reversible twill weave with a subtle diagonal texture and soft brushed feel. Compact lap size, perfect for cozying up, picnics, or display as a mid-century farmhouse accent.
Measurements (approx.):
• 57 × 46 inches (145 × 117 cm)
• +3” fringe on each end
Material:
Natural fiber blend — burn test indicates primarily cotton with a small wool component (soft, not itchy). Medium-weight, warm, and breathable.
Likely produced in the late 1940s to early 1950s, before Canadian textile manufacturing became fully mechanized.
The construction and fringe style suggest production from a smaller Canadian mill or early run by larger names such as Wabasso, Penmans, or Ayers Woolen Mill, all known for twill and car-robe blankets of this type.
Excellent vintage condition for its age. No stains, tears, or odors. Minor irregularities in the fringe consistent with handmade finishing.
This blanket has remained in the same family for at least two generations. My parents remember it being used at our Niagara farmhouse as a car and picnic blanket through the mid-20th century. It has been carefully stored and cherished since.
