Japanese Oshie Art – “Boy Playing with Mari Ball”
A traditional Japanese “oshie” (押絵) textile art, made by layering and lightly padding small pieces of “chirimen” crepe fabric for a soft 3D effect.
The boy wears a luxurious kimono and a tall “eboshi”-style cap, a symbol of high status among noble children of the Heian period (794-1185). His long black hair flows naturally as he is about to kick a beautifully decorated “mari” ball.
Size: 24 × 27cm (9.4” × 10.6”)
Condition: Excellent vintage condition
A charming piece that brings a touch of traditional Japanese elegance to any space!
