Vintage 1989-90 Pergis Edmonton Canadians Bantam AAA Jacket
$170
This is an original 1989–90 Edmonton Canadians Athletic Club Bantam AAA City Championship varsity jacket, custom made by Edmonton-based Pergis Jackets & Crests and personalized for player “Doug,” number 17.
Far more than a generic vintage letterman jacket, the embroidery documents a specific piece of Edmonton minor-hockey history. The front carries the classic Edmonton Canadians Athletic Club crest with its beaver-and-hockey motif, while the sleeves are decorated with individual “Doug” and #17 identification, a Bantam AAA crest, period Inland Cement sponsorship and, most importantly, a “CITY CHAMPS 1989-90” championship patch.
The Canadian Athletic Club was founded in Edmonton in 1937 to provide young athletes with a more competitive environment. Its long-running hockey program has produced more than 50 City and Provincial championships, and the organization has historical connections extending into Edmonton’s broader hockey story. During the 1950s and 1960s CAC was affiliated with the Chicago Blackhawks and Detroit Red Wings, and the Canadian Athletic Club was one of the Edmonton athletic clubs supplying players to the early Edmonton Oil Kings organization.
The Inland Cement crest adds another specifically Edmonton element. Inland operated a major cement facility in Edmonton, and the company used the Inland Cement Limited name during the exact period represented by this jacket. The relationship between Inland Cement and CAC hockey was longstanding enough that future NHL star Kelly Hrudey previously played for a Canadian Athletic Club Inland Cement youth team.
The jacket was produced by Pergis Jackets & Crests, an Edmonton family business founded in 1980 specializing in custom jackets, crests and embroidery. Because this jacket dates to 1989–90, it represents an early-period Pergis custom sports jacket from roughly the company’s first decade. The Pergis maple-leaf branded metal snaps remain another distinctive period detail.
Heavy traditional varsity construction with a red wool/wool-blend-style body, contrasting white and navy leather sleeves, navy leather collar, snap front and embroidered team and championship decoration in a men's size 40. Jacket weighs approximately 2.78 lb.
Pre-owned vintage condition with age-appropriate leather patina and cosmetic wear. Embroidery, patches and overall construction present very well, with no major structural damage.
A particularly strong collectible for Edmonton hockey, Canadian minor-hockey, vintage varsity jacket, Pergis, CAC or Alberta sports memorabilia collectors.
