Antique Gianasco Bulbul Tarang (Indian Banjo or zither)

A Giansco Bulbul Tarang is a vintage, collectible brand of the traditional Indian box zither, also known as the "Indian banjo" or "Punjabi banjo". It features a typewriter-style key layout over a fretboard, where pressing keys shortens the strings to change the pitch while the other hand strums or plucks them. What is a Bulbul Tarang? Origin: Evolved from the Japanese taishogoto introduced to South Asia in the 1930s. Name: Translates poetically to "waves of nightingales".Structure: Uses a set of main melody/drone strings running over a wooden box body with mechanical key levers. Giansco Brand: A recognized vintage maker of these unique acoustic-electric or acoustic box zithers historically exported from India. Original strings, excellent condition but obviously requires tuning, almost 100 years old.
