Rose Mallow ( Luna Hibiscus) seeds Perennial
$2
1 pack of 12 seeds for $2.
Produces large beautiful flowers which bloom from midsummer to early fall. Unlike tropical hibiscus, rose mallow is a hardy perennial that returns every year. The flowers attract pollinators like butterflies and hummingbirds. Birds also eat the seeds from the seed pods, which can add winter interest to the garden. It is also deer-resistant and nontoxic.
Start seeds in the spring, after the last frost has passed, by planting them directly outdoors. To get a head start, you can sow seeds indoors about 12 weeks before the last expected frost. To prepare seeds for planting, soak them in warm water for 24 hours and optionally nick or lightly sand the hard outer coating to help with germination. After soaking, you can either sow them directly into soil or use the wet paper towel method to wait for sprouts to appear before planting them in pots or the ground. Rose mallow is one of the last perennials to emerge in the spring; new growth may not appear until late May or early June.
