Q: First impression of Karrot?
A: I actually downloaded Karrot after not-so-great experience on other Marketplace platforms. I was trying to sell a Nintendo Switch and the buyer just made me feel really uncomfortable. When I came back to Karrot, it was such a breath of fresh air. I immediately felt safer and more comfortable, especially as someone with kids who’s constantly buying and selling things. It just fits into my life so naturally.
Q: What makes the Karrot community special?
A: I’ve completely stopped using other buy and sell platforms—Karrot is my go-to now. The safety, the transparency, and the people make all the difference. Everyone is so polite. I’ve had actual conversations during transactions, and as a stay-at-home mom, those moments of connection really matter. It’s not just buying and selling, it’s about feeling like you’re part of something bigger. I love knowing the things I give away are actually being used by people who need them.
Q: Main motivation for choosing to buy and sell secondhand?
A: I’m definitely eco-conscious, and I really believe in the positive impact of secondhand. I sell and buy a lot of items for my kids, and I also do regular spring cleanings twice a year, so Karrot helps me keep things moving. I’ve also put together bundles for people just because they were grateful, even when I didn’t “win” anything from Freecycle. It’s all about community.
Q: What is your favourite feature on Karrot?
A: The AI posting feature is incredible. Sometimes you don’t know how to describe an item, or what it’s worth, and it does all of that for you! And I always make sure to take well-lit photos—makes a huge difference.
Q: Most memorable transaction experience?
A: There’s a woman I’ve met up with a few times now. We first met at a subway station and ended up chatting about her grandson, who’s the same age as my daughter. It was such a sweet exchange. Another time, someone drove over an hour to pick something up from me—I didn’t even know until she told me! I was so touched that I added a few extra items for her to make the trip worth it. Little things like that really stay with you.
Q: Favourite event? (eg. Freecycle)
A: Freecycle is absolutely my favorite. When something’s been sitting for a while, I’ll just lower the price and then eventually post it for free. It’s such a great feeling to see something go to someone who’s genuinely excited to use it, rather than letting it pile up or end up in the landfill.
