7 Vintage WWII & Military History Books

Collection of 7 vintage and military-history books covering WWII in the Pacific, naval warfare, aviation, war correspondence, the final months of Nazi Germany and the British SAS. Several of the older books retain their illustrated period dust jackets, including wartime and early postwar titles. An interesting group for military-history readers, WWII collectors, aviation/naval enthusiasts or anyone interested in vintage war books. Included / Individual Prices: 1. Battle for the Solomons — Ira Wolfert — $35. Vintage 1943 wartime account of the brutal fighting in the Solomon Islands during the Pacific War. The period dust jacket references the October–November 1942 campaign and retains a wartime U.S. War Savings Bonds and Stamps advertisement on the rear. 2. H.M.S. Ulysses — Alistair MacLean — $35. Classic naval-war novel based around the deadly Arctic convoy routes of WWII. H.M.S. Ulysses was MacLean’s first novel, originally published in 1955 and influenced by his own wartime Royal Navy service. Vintage hardcover with illustrated dust jacket showing age-related wear. 3. Tomorrow We Fly — William B. Stout & Franklin M. Reck — $25. Fascinating vintage aviation book subtitled “The Shape of Things to Come in Aviation,” with striking period aircraft artwork and its illustrated dust jacket. William B. Stout was a pioneering American aircraft designer associated with the Ford Trimotor. 4. The Curtain Rises — Quentin Reynolds — $20. Vintage WWII account by American journalist and war correspondent Quentin Reynolds, covering his experiences in Russia, Iran, Palestine, North Africa, Sicily and Salerno. Period illustrated dust jacket present. 5. The Last 100 Days — John Toland — $15. Substantial WWII history by noted historian John Toland covering the dramatic final 100 days of the war in Europe and the collapse of Nazi Germany. Random House hardcover. 6. Three Roads to Valhalla — Catherine Pomeroy Stewart — $15. Older military/history hardcover by Catherine Pomeroy Stewart. Vintage cloth binding with gilt spine lettering. 7. The SAS at Close Quarters — Steve Crawford — $15. Illustrated history of Britain’s Special Air Service, incorporating accounts from SAS soldiers and covering notable operations including the Falklands and the Iranian Embassy siege. Several of the older books retain their original/period dust jackets, which show noticeable edge wear, chipping, tears, rubbing, discoloration and other age/storage wear.
