Up for sale is a rare, fully intact antique Turkmen torba (complete nomadic tent bag) featuring the classic kedjebe (bridal canopy) geometric pattern.
Unlike most pieces on the market which have been cut down into flat rugs, this is an entirely complete bag. The decorated front panel opens up into a large, fully functional storage pocket with its original plain-weave protective backing intact. It also features the original hand-braided red and black wool tension ties used to secure the bag inside a yurt or onto a camel during bridal processions.
The front face showcases beautiful geometric diamond motifs in rich madder reds, deep charcoals, and ochre yellow highlights, finished with a massive, dramatic wool fringe along the bottom.
Condition Note:
Outstanding antique condition for a complete, functional tribal object. The backing fabric is strong and structurally sound with no major blowouts. The interior weave shows the wonderful raw, authentic hand-made loops of the weaving process. Expect light, age-appropriate surface wear to the wool pile and minor tangles to the fringe. Please review the detailed photos of the front, back, and interior pocket to appreciate its completeness.
Dimensions:
* Bag Pocket Only: 38" Width x 11.5" Height (Approx. 96.5 cm x 29 cm)
* Total Length (Including Fringe): Approx. 25" Height (Approx. 63.5 cm)
