Antique Van Bergh S.P. Co Quadruple Plate Teapot #493 Floral
$40
Maker: The Van Bergh Silver Plate Company (Rochester, NY). Markings: The base is stamped with the circular "The Van Bergh S.P. Co. Rochester, N.Y." hallmark, "Quadruple Plate," and the pattern/model number 493. Era/Age: Late Victorian to Early Art Nouveau (Circa 1892–1920). The company merged with Oneida in 1926, so this piece predates that merger. Design: Features an elegant bulbous body with hand-engraved floral motifs. The handle and spout are ornately cast with Victorian scrollwork. It has a hinged lid with a decorative finial. Condition: The exterior shows a heavy natural patina (tarnish) with some "rainbow" toning, which many collectors prefer as it proves age. There are areas where the silver plating has worn down to the base metal (common with "quadruple plate" of this age). No major dents are visible in the photos. The interior shows some mineral buildup from use. Material: Silverplate on white metal (Quadruple plate indicates a higher quality, thicker layer of silver used during original manufacturing).
