I would live for these to find a home to be reused before being sent for recycling. Recycling does require considerable energy and I would rather do as much as possible to keep that to a minimum. Not to mention that the recycling system has some severe issues including diversion to garbage for many reasons including lack of capacity at depots, sorting centers, etc. I say $5 but that's really a preference.
