Unique WW II Robert Mitchell & Co Brass Trench Art
$140
Unique WW II 1945 Robert Mitchell & Co., Quebec City, Quebec, Canada trench Art solid brass fireplace fire starter tankard with a brass handled pumice stone made from a WW II brass shell case.
Circa 1945.
An amazing piece of history.
Stamped/marked to the underside of the tankard. The letters and numbers are to identify the shell case.
Note the following:
- 25 PP is for 90mm calibre
- There is an upside down B, a MK and a 2. I’m not sure about their meaning
- Lot 424 is of course the number on this particular casing
- RM/C is for the Robert Mitchell Co which is their maker’s mark. The C is for Canada where this case was made
- There is the number 1 with an upward arrow above it and a D with an upward arrow below it and a 1 under the arrow.
- CF are the initials of the assembler
- 1945 is the year this casing was manufactured
Good condition considering the age. Patina. Any wear commensurates with the age.
Very heavy. The fire starter tankard has a weighted bottom to prevent tipping. The handle on the fire starter has an upside down key slot for wall mounting.
The fire starter is approximately 4” inches diameter across the bottom, 5.7” wide including the handle and 7.1” tall.
The pumice wand is approximately 11.7” in length.
