Vintage O.N. Grandmaison Framed Lithograph – "N.W.M.P. Crossing the Bow River to Found Calgary" (1975)
Up for auction is a beautifully preserved, vintage historical print by celebrated Calgary landscape artist Orestes Nicholas (Rick) Grandmaison (1932–1985).
Titled "N.W.M.P. Crossing the Bow River to Found Calgary," this artwork was originally commissioned by The Molson Companies as a prestigious Centennial Gift to the City of Calgary, marking the historic 100-year milestone (1875–1975). The original master oil painting was designated to hang proudly inside the Calgary Convention Centre.
The artwork features a highly detailed, evocative depiction of "F" Division of the North West Mounted Police under Inspector E.A. Brisebois completing their grueling day-long river crossing in August 1875 to establish Fort Calgary—right at the site of what is known today as the Reconciliation (formerly Langevin) Bridge.
