Vintage Galileo thermometer

This vintage piece is a large model and shows the return of the trend for items to be both decorative and practical… it is an elegant and timeless addition to any home, office or bedroom. The Galileo thermometer, named after the Italian astronomer Galileo Galilei, is a scientific instrument that demonstrates the principle of buoyancy and thermal expansion. It consists of a sealed glass tube filled with a liquid, typically water or alcohol, and contains several glass spheres of different densities. These spheres are weighted with small metal tags, and as the temperature changes, the density of the liquid also changes, causing the spheres to rise or fall. The temperature is indicated by the lowest-hanging sphere that is still floating. Pick up is lower Capilano rd, North Van or Hastings-Sunrise in East Van.
