Bank of England Ten Shilling Note signed by Paul Martin Sr.

Own a unique piece of history with this vintage Bank of England Ten Shilling note, which includes a personal note on it linking it to Canadian political history, signed to my maternal grandmother by famous Canadian politician Paul Martin Sr. Alongside is a photograph of him with my grandfather, Canadian High Commissioner to Ceylon, (now called Sri Lanka), Reginald George (Nik) Cavell. Also the envelope that my mother kept it in referencing the item. The banknote was the subject of a bet between Mr. Martin Sr. and my grandmother, Mrs. Marjorie Cavell. Mr Martin bet her that he would win the leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada, and if he did she would need to return the banknote to him. (This was in 1948). He would run again in 1958 and 1968 but was never successful. Hense she kept the note! (His son Paul Martin Junior was successful in securing the leadership of the Liberal Party and was Prime Minister of Canada from 2003-2006 and is alive as of today!) My grandparents had come from England and had only English money on hand on the occasion of this bet! The inscription reads "With much love from a "frog" to a charming woman." The Martins were from Quebec, hense the then used term for some folks from there. And my grandmother was a charm and charmer!
