Acclaimed director Michael Mann (Heat, Collateral) brings his signature visual precision and visceral action choreography to 1930s Depression-era America in Public Enemies. Johnny Depp stars as the charismatic, daring outlaw John Dillinger, whose brazen daylight bank robberies capture the public imagination and turn him into the nation's premier folk hero. As the newly formed FBI seeks to establish its authority, J. Edgar Hoover (Billy Crudup) appoints uncompromising lawman Melvin Purvis (Christian Bale) to hunt down Dillinger and his notorious crew. Caught between a relentless federal dragnet and his deep devotion to Billie Frechette (Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard), Dillinger hurtles toward a fateful confrontation at Chicago's Biograph Theater. Shot with Mann's distinctive, hyper-kinetic digital cinematography and featuring intense, historically grounded gunfights.
