Mid-Century Modern Kosta Boda Clear Crystal "Stag" Art Glass Bowl / Cabinet Vase by Vicke Lindstrand, ca. 1955
An exceptional and early piece of Swedish mid-century modern art glass, designed by the legendary master glassmaker Vicke Lindstrand for Kosta Glasbruk.
This heavy, thick-walled clear crystal bowl features an organically rounded, undulating rim and a deeply weighted base. The front display face features a beautifully minimalist, hand-copper-wheel engraved motif of a standing stag or deer poised elegantly above its own stylized reflection. The piece beautifully showcases Lindstrand’s signature mastery of combining clean, heavy, fluid glass forms with delicate, illustrative engraving.

ABOUT THE ARTIST: VICKE LINDSTRAND (1904–1983)
Viktor "Vicke" Lindstrand was a monumental force in 20th-century Scandinavian design. Renowned as a painter, sculptor, ceramicist, and illustrator, he is most celebrated for pioneering some of the most innovative glassmaking techniques of the post-war era.
After legendary tenures at Orrefors (where he co-invented the famous Ariel technique) and Uppsala-Ekeby, Lindstrand served as the Artistic Director of Kosta Glasbruk from 1950 to 1973. His arrival revitalized Kosta, steering the historic factory away from traditional patterns and toward organic, sculptural forms inspired by nature, wildlife, and ice. This specific piece, marked with the early "V1466" production code, captures the absolute peak of Lindstrand's mid-1950s creative influence, making it a highly desirable acquisition for collectors of Swedish art glass and Mid-Century Modern design.
