Membership is not required to use the rower, which will still track distance, adjust drag, etc, even without a monthly membership. Membership however comes with more than 6300 videos of different lenths, including non-rowing workout vidoes like strength training, yoga, etc. Membership, which is $50 a month, also includes live rowing classes, competitions, etc. You can watch someone row or, my favourite when I used the machine, watch a video that provides a first person POV of a river, lake, or ocean row without other people or voices to distract. You can even adjust the sound that each stroke makes to match the environment that you're rowing in. It's a pretty incredible experience.
