Authentic Sean Caulfield San (Bushmen) Rock Art Painting

Authentic Sean Caulfield San (Bushmen) Rock Art Painting Plaque (2013) Offered for auction is a premium, highly collectible contemporary composite wall plaque by renowned artist Sean Caulfield. This striking mixed-media piece pays tribute to the ancient, shamanistic cave art left behind by the San peoples of Southern Africa. The composition depicts a dynamic, traditional hunting scene. It features stylized, elongated hunters with bows and arrows tracking native African wildlife, rendered beautifully in authentic earth tones and natural oxides. The artwork is cast using Caulfield's proprietary method, blending crushed stone granules, sand-crystal, and resin into a mold taken directly from a living mountain rock face. This creates a remarkably authentic, rugged sandstone texture that retains the exact look and feel of prehistoric cave walls while remaining lightweight and durable. The plaque is securely mounted to a solid black backing panel and comes ready to display with an integrated wire hanging mount. About the Artist: Sean Caulfield Born in England, Sean Caulfield immigrated to South Africa in 1971, where he grew to become a master of contemporary African art forms. Fascinated by the historical cave paintings scattered across the mountains of Southern Africa, Caulfield dedicated his career to studying their natural state, imagery, and spiritual meanings. He eventually founded the acclaimed Rock Art Gallery in Cape Town to share these cultural treasures with global collectors. Caulfield’s mastery of realistic rock replication earned him massive museum and institutional commissions in South Africa. Most notably, he designed and constructed a 300-square-meter artificial cave exhibit inside Museum Africa in Johannesburg, as well as a 100-square-meter replica system for the world-famous Cango Caves in Oudtshoorn. His gallery pieces are highly sought after by collectors who appreciate fine craftsmanship combined with deep cultural history.
