Vintage Articulated Abalone Fish Bottle Opener – Mid-Century
$60
Vintage articulated fish bottle opener featuring shimmering abalone shell inlay and a flexible, jointed body.
These unique pieces were typically handcrafted in Mexico (Taxco / Guerrero region) during the mid-20th century (circa 1950s–1970s), often using alpaca silver (nickel silvera), brass, or silver-plated metal with inlaid abalone shell.
The articulated design allows the fish to move naturally segment by segment, giving it both sculptural appeal and functional ergonomics. The mouth serves as the bottle opener, while the body’s flexibility makes it easy to grip.
Abalone shell is prized for its iridescent, ocean-like color play, making each piece visually unique and highly decorative.
