Vintage Porcelain Japanese Ginger Jar, Gold Imari

Vintage from the 1950s Vintage porcelain Japanese Ginger Jar Floral design with gilt detail Dimensions: 6 1/8 inches Tall with lid, (4.5 inches without the lid). Approx. 4.25 inches in Diameter at its widest point. Made in Japan Vintage: 1970's - 1980's Details: This is a wonderful Gold Imari ginger jar. The colors are very bright and cheerful, there are gold accents all around including the lid and finial which are also adorned with cherry blossoms, orchids and other flowers around the rim. There is wonderful detail, and so much meaning of good-will on this piece. There's the "Hishi" pattern (red diamonds outlined in green) which is a Japanese symbol for prosperity and grand generativity (to provide care and concern for younger and older generations). The dark blue section with gold swirls is the "Karakusa" pattern which symbolizes luck, prosperity, and eternity. The white flowers throughout the piece is "Kiku" (Chrysanthemums) which symbolize longevity and rejuvenation, these are very special flowers in Japan, they have close ties to the Imperial family. In the center you see little red Ume (Plum blossom) which are a symbol of luck, nobility, purity, devotion, refinement, and protection against evil. The large Orchid in the center is very special and associated with prosperity and rarity, because they are not native to Japan, and originally only available to the Imperial family.
