About the Artist Nicholas Hornyansky (1896–1965) was a highly influential painter and printmaker who holds a significant place in 20th-century Canadian art history. Born in Budapest, Hungary, he worked in his father's printing shop from a young age, mastering color mixing by age 12. He later studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest and honed his etching techniques in Munich, Vienna, and Paris. After moving to Canada in 1929, Hornyansky fell in love with the landscape. He became celebrated for his ability to capture Canadian historic architecture and landmarks. He was elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts (RCA) and was a prominent member of the Ontario Society of Artists and the Canadian Society of Graphic Art. His innovative "single-pull" color aquatint method allowed him to create prints with unmatched tonal beauty. Today, his works are held in major permanent collections, including the National Gallery of Canada and the Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO). Condition Report: The print appears to be in very good vintage condition with strong, crisp colors and clear margins. The frame shows minor vintage wear consistent with age but remains structurally sound and highly attractive.
