Seeking small dog

Putting out feelers to see if anyone has any small breed dogs My partners grandparents lost their last dogs to old age and they're very much wanting to welcome a new fur baby. Age isn't a issue so puppy or mature age is fine. Any small dog breed is fine pure bred or mixed breed. Would be the only dog in the home but would need to get along with other dogs as they dog sit our 2 dogs and 2 cats now an then for us as well as kid friendly as we visit them often with our kiddos. Their late dogs who passed were bichon Frise and they were well loved and cared for mildly spoiled. Only deal breaker is if it to closely resembles the late passed away dogs they had as it triggers a very profound emotional response resulting in tears and heart ache...
