2015 Chevrolet Sonic
$4,000
Selling my 2015 Chevrolet Sonic due to needing a larger vehicle for work purposes.
This Sonic is the “hold my beer” of hatchbacks. It has been consistently reliable for me and has shown it can handle whatever has been thrown at it so far, including a drive from Vancouver to Radium BC (and back) through Cross Nest Pass in surprise white-out conditions. Did Sonic falter? Did it heck. It’s All Season tires gripped the road and brought myself, my partner, and our two kitty cats through it all safe and sound.
Long drives are easy, but it works really well in the city and is a pleasure to park (definitely easy with the reverse camera).
This was my first car and I bought it secondhand. After purchasing I spent some good money to get the tires replaced (and they were just replaced again last year) and also to get the drive train recalibrated. The CarFax will show you all of the details, but the car has been well maintained since I purchased it in 2020. I will happily send the CarFax on request.
The entertainment system works well and has a pretty seamless bluetooth connection. I am not sure the sound system specs themselves, but as someone who appreciates good sound it always comes through.
Here are the downsides:
The big one is the AC has stopped blowing cold. Heat is no problem, but cold doesn’t work. I’ve received a quote from one garage for $1600 for the repairs including parts and labour. Some cursory searches online suggest that it can be fixed a lot cheaper for anyone with the patience and experience, or another dealer may have a better price.
The driver’s side heated seat doesn’t work. Your passenger will ride in style with a warm behind, but the driver does not have the luxury. This is likely a wiring issue and I have not investigated in getting it fixed.
There are some cosmetic issues with the car, as you will see in the photos. There are some scratches along the passenger side door handle and side (stupid parking pillar…) and there is a small dent on one side. The inside plastic seems to have some white paint in some places. This was there when I purchased the car and it’s never bothered me. I also noticed a marking on one of the wing mirrors; this is new and I have a feeling might have happened while it was parked over the last week or so. No note left…of course.
Overall this is a really reliable vehicle and I am sad to see it go. It would be perfect some someone new to the city/country, or a first time vehicle for someone who just needs to get around. The car is insured so a test drive is possible. The car is located in Mount Pleasant, Vancouver.
