15For your consideration is my 1975 Fender Precision Bass. This bass is all original, including electronics, hardware, and vintage ‘75 pickups; however I did replace the gassed off black pickup cushions which were all but non-existent. I also changed out the black pickguard that came with it (not certain that it was original or not, but looks to be either authentic Fender or Vintage Mighty Mite) for a real cellulose Tortoise one, but will include the original black one. Also has the original chrome bridge cover, which will also be included. It looks as though the tone pot was changed in maybe ‘76 or ‘77, because that pot is dated “137-76-07”, versus the volume pot which is dated “137-74-51”. The capacitor and wiring are both original. The neck plate serial number of 648451 places the bass solidly in the realm of 1975 (580000 to 690000). There is no discernable date stamp on the neck heel—a tiny bit of unreadable ink shows where the date stamp would typically start—but there are authentic QC stamps on the bottom, one being that of a Mr. Webright. The neck is straight with no dead spots or ski sloping in the upper register; frets need a good crowning but have plenty of life left in them. There are a couple of small nicks that somehow typically show up on the back of vintage bass necks—I’m guessing from leaning them against amps back in the day before guitar stands or something. The body has its share of vintage apropos expected small nicks and dings; there is a more substantial buckle “dent” on the back of the body which seems to be confined to the finish itself, and not the wood. It of course does not affect the tone or playability of this bass. Surprisingly, there is very little finish checking, as this was the full blown era of Fender’s new “Thick Skin” finishes that were still sometimes covered with a lacquer top coat. This is why as far as I know, even some ‘70s Fenders finishes still check like lacquer finishes. The bass weighs in at 10.2 lbs, which is not the worst weight for that era. But she also balances well and doesn’t really feel heavy IMHO. Pricing includes a new hard shell G&G case.
