Description:
Up for sale is arguably the most culturally significant piece from the iconic mid-century Teatro alla Scalaseries by legendary Italian designer Piero Fornasetti.
This stunning trompe-l’œil (fool-the-eye) porcelain tray replicates the original 1946 playbill announcing the grand inauguration and reopening of the rebuilt La Scala opera house following its destruction in WWII.
Crafted with Fornasetti’s signature dimensional "folded/crumpled paper" edge effect, the reverse side includes a typed historical overview of the memorable evening alongside the authentic Fornasetti Milano hand-and-paintbrush maker’s mark (Numbered 12).
Features:
* Extremely bold, crisp black transfer-print typography and graphics.
* Large, beautiful crest detailing at the top with a full orchestral and soloist roster.
* Features pre-drilled display holes on the back corners, ready to be hung as a work of fine art or used as a luxury vanity tray.
Condition Report:
The central graphic and text are in crisp, bold, phenomenal condition. The porcelain body is completely structurally sound with zero chips, cracks, or hairline fractures. Please note there i vintage wear, thinning, and rubbing to the gold leaf trim along the wavy borders (please see detailed photos). This wear is very common for these pieces .
