Grand Australian Trumpet Seashell

The Australian Trumpet Shell, also known as the Syrinx Aruanus (its scientific name), is home to the largest living species of sea snail in the world and is famous for its massive, conical appearance. This unusual shell measures 19" in length (19ʺL × 9.5ʺD × 10ʺH). The surface is ivory in color and textured by layered age markings which give it great character and authenticity. Shells like this are made of proteins and minerals, primarily calcium carbonate, layered by the giant sea snail to form its robust, spiral shape, which grow huge. It has a creamy exterior with hued insides, making it a prized collector's item and natural sculpture. The trumpet has signs of age mainly along the tip which is common to these large cones. These signs may either be because it was vertically positioned in a shell stand for display, or the result, charmingly so, of its longevity and travels from abroad. It is a conversation piece, captivating decor in any setting.
