Rare Antique Rockwood Fire Alarm Bell Cover

This is a rare antique cast iron fire sprinkler alarm bell cover (or shroud) manufactured by Rockwood Sprinkler Company, which was headquartered in Worcester, Massachusetts. These covers were commonly used in the early 20th century, from the 1920s to the 1940s, and were standard features on the exterior of commercial and public buildings, such as banks, libraries, and city halls. This piece is from the early 1920’s. Key Features - Design: features "Art Deco" style open-work lettering. They were originally finished with bright red paint to make them highly visible on buildings. - Material: Made of cast iron. It’s in great shape, a nice casting with no damage. - Dimensions: 17 3/4” Diameter x 5 3/4” high. - Weight: Approximately 22 lbs. It’s a beautiful piece with its Art Deco style lettering and sundial design. I honestly think the aged, warm, rusted patina is nicer looking than its original bright red. Would make a wonderful industrial object, perhaps repurposed into a lighted wall sconce (eg. see last image) or just as an interesting historical decor object.
