Vintage 1960s Italian Terracotta Mask Candle Sconce / Sculptural Handmade Wall Art. Rare and highly unusual mid-century Italian decorative piece, identified as a handmade terracotta/clay mask candle sconce, dating to approximately the 1960s. Similar Italian examples are documented in the vintage design market as Italian terra-cotta mask tea-light sconces from this period. The sculptural mask has a wonderfully primitive, almost folk-art character with an aged reddish terracotta finish and expressive recessed facial features. The three openings allow candlelight to shine through the eyes and mouth, creating a striking effect when illuminated. The reverse features the original-looking hand-formed metal candle support/frame and hanging loop. Approximately 10.5" tall x 8.5" wide. The face is believed to be terracotta/fired clay, with a metal rear support and candle holder. It is unmarked/unsigned, so no specific artist or maker can be confirmed. Excellent vintage condition with authentic surface patina, darkened areas and minor age-related wear that contribute to its character. Please see photos for details.
