Natural History of Delmarva Dragonflies and Damselflies
$10
Dragonflies and Damselflies — a beautiful natural history book for anyone who loves watching them. Hal White's Essays of a Lifelong Observer (University of Delaware Press, 2011, paperback, 284 pages) is full of colour photographs and short essays about dragonfly life — their life cycles, behaviour, mating, migration, and the simple joy of watching them around ponds and wetlands. An honest note: the species in the book are from the Delmarva Peninsula on the US east coast, so this is NOT a BC field guide. But it is not really an identification book at all — it is a book about dragonflies themselves, written for people who already love them and want to know more. If you watch dragonflies at Westwood Lake, Buttertubs Marsh, or your own backyard pond, or you know a kid who is fascinated by insects, this is a lovely read — and at this price it is cheaper than a coffee. New, still sealed in its original shrinkwrap — never opened. Pickup in Nanaimo, BC. Keywords: dragonflies, damselflies, odonata, hal white, natural history, entomology, insects, nature, pond, wetlands
